First, let me tell you that I'm a BIG fan of the Roswell movie. I think your movie raised the consciousness of the masses to the fact that SOMETHING did in-fact crash near Roswell in July 1947 and it wasn't a weather balloon as we had been led to believe. The official report that now says it was a Project Mogul balloon is also VERY SUSPECT in my opinion. I do believe that the Roswell incident represents one of our BEST CASES. Something did crash there and the government was the one who reported that it was a CRASHED DISK. It wasn't until later that they realized that they had made a grave mistake in releasing that info and the coverup began (IMO). And it continues. But I think generally that the American public is becoming more aware and are asking more questions about what really happened there in 1947. Your movie had a lot to do with that.

But lately there seems to be more and more disinformation coming from different sources about the Roswell incident. First there was the Santilli Autopsy film which tried to initially tie itself to the Roswell story. Is the Santilli film real? IMO it is a hoax. But is it a hoax created to make bucks or is it disinformation to try and discredit the entire Roswell event? I think it's very important to learn the origin of that film and it's purpose, but that's another problem. :)

What I am writing about are the alien photos that appear in the September issue of Penthouse Magazine. I know you reported last year that these SAME alleged Roswell alien photos that appeared in the chinese tabloid MING PAO Weekly are of your dummy that was created for the movie and is on display at the International UFO Museum. Now these same photos appear in Penthouse. I have been to the museum and have created a web page that reflects the truth about these pictures. I have posted your letter that appeared in ISCNI last year to my page, but there are still people out there that seem to be confused about these pictures. The one I'm most concerned about is the creator of the dummy Steve Johnson. I have been told by a source that Steve does not believe they are the same. I would like to contact him for a statement. Would you put me in touch with Steve or forward this message to him? I would appreciate any help you can provide.

Thanks for your insightful E-mail. The disinformation has been unfortunate. I don't know who was behind the Santilli matter -- or whether the motivation was money or disinformation. I believe Steve Johnson thinks the Santilli alien was created by an effects man he has known -- something about a similarity in style.

When I heard about the Penthouse mess, I called "Joe" at Steve Johnson's company "XFX" who immediately expressed outrate that Penthouse had printed one of our four props as being real. I haven't spoken to Steve about it personally yet. When you compare the prop to the Penthouse photo there's not one chance in a billion trillion that the Penthouse alien is anything other than our prop that lies in state in the International UFO Museum and Research Center in Roswell, New Mexico.

I appeared recently on a CNBC program called "After Hours" and set the record straight about the Penthouse photos. They showed 5 prints of photos of our props I sent them. I am fuming that someone "lost" (i.e. "took") the five prints after the broadcast and I did not get them back. I have duplicates and the negatives are God-knows-somewhere. But anyone can take their own if they go to the expense of flying to Roswell -- and I understand some shows have done so and will report on this soon -- "Hard Copy", "Sightings"... maybe "Dateline" (uncertain). New York magazine will mention this fiasco and quote me in their next Monday issue.

It's very nice hearing your strongly positive evaluation of the contribution "Roswell" has made in raising public awareness. That was my primary motivation in struggling so many years to get it made.

My next film, a feature documentary entitled "Timothy Leary's Dead," will be shown Sept. 6th at the Venice Italy Film Festival and then after that in September at the Toronto Film Festival. Hopefully it will be widely distributed by sometime early next year.

Incidentally, at a private lunch with astronaut Gordon Cooper, he confirmed for me his knowledge that the Roswell event was really an ET event and happened much as we portrayed it in our movie. That was very gratifying. He said he knows someone very well who did see the bodies. But he's not gone public with that confirmation.

Keep up your good work. The wheels are turning. Slowly.

Moses waited two generations before he took the children of Israel into "Canaan", the Promised Land, so the slaves of Egypt would not be the founders of the new nation.

Maybe, just maybe, President Clinton might think he sees Canaan over yonder hill -- or maybe yet another generation has to die off first before the human race will really be ready.
